HopToDesk Invite: The Easiest Way to Start a Remote Session
Setting up a remote desktop connection usually means the person needing help has to find their ID, read out a password, and hope they don't misread a character. For someone who isn't tech-savvy, that process alone can be frustrating. HopToDesk's Invite feature simplifies this down to a single click.
How It Works
With Invite, the person needing help only needs one piece of information: the helper's HopToDesk ID. The helper shares their ID over the phone or in a message, and the rest is almost automatic. Here's the flow:
The person needing help enters the helper's HopToDesk ID and clicks Invite.
A secure, encrypted connection is established to the helper's device.
The helper sees a clean prompt: "Accept invite to connect to this computer?" with Accept and Dismiss buttons.
The helper clicks Accept and is automatically connected to the other person's computer. The remote session starts instantly.
No passwords to read out. No IDs to copy and paste in both directions. The helper shares one number, the other person types it in and clicks Invite, and the helper clicks Accept. That's it.
Why This Is Simpler
In a traditional remote desktop setup, the person needing help has to share two things: their ID and their password. That means reading out a long ID, then finding the password, then reading that out too, often while the helper repeats it back to confirm. With Invite, the information only flows one way. The helper tells the person their ID, and the Invite handles everything else behind the scenes.
This is especially helpful when the person needing support isn't comfortable with technology. Instead of navigating multiple fields and reading out credentials, they just type one number and click one button.
Built on the Same Security You Already Trust
The Invite feature uses the same end-to-end encrypted, peer-to-peer connection that underpins every HopToDesk session. The connection credentials are exchanged securely through an encrypted channel and are never exposed to either user or transmitted in plain text.
The helper also stays in control. Until they click Accept, no connection is made. They can dismiss the invite at any time, and standard HopToDesk permissions and access controls still apply.
When Invite Makes a Difference
Tech support for family and friends: Tell them your ID, have them type it in and click Invite, then click Accept on your end. No more walking someone through "OK, now read me the number under Your ID..."
IT helpdesk and onboarding: Give end users a single ID to enter instead of asking them to navigate the app and share credentials.
Quick collaboration: A colleague needs help with something on their machine. Share your ID, let them invite you, and you're connected in seconds.
Less tech-savvy users: One number to type and one button to click is far more approachable than the traditional ID-and-password exchange.
Simple by Design
The Invite feature reflects what HopToDesk has always been about: making remote access simple, secure, and free. There's no extra configuration, no premium tier required, and it works across Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's just a better way to start a remote session when you already know who you want to connect with.
